While the spring here was L O N G, we are now seeing the tomatoes ripen and the farmers are hauling them into our commissary kitchen by the truckload. The beautiful, colorful and ripe tomatoes are coming from Sheldon at YOUR KITCHEN GARDEN in Canby, OR, and Charlie at FLAMINGO RIDGE in Gaston, OR. Charlie is expert at growing early and late season tomatoes in his huge greenhouses, so we have had some while the other growers have been waiting and waiting. Sheldon grows a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes and starts them under cover in early spring. Normally some of these would be moved outdoors earlier than he was able to this year so we are getting toms that have ripened under cover while the ones grown outdoors will start coming in over the next few days. With any luck we will have a drier fall and enjoy tomotoes through October. Cross your fingers!
